Purpose: TheCHANGEproject is inviting medical and pre-medical students to complete this needs assessment so we can design stronger health equity advocacy programming, training resources, and curriculum — and to identify solutions to the barriers students face in sustaining health equity commitments during medical training. De-identified aggregate findings may be published in a white paper or public advocacy materials.

You must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Participation is voluntary. You may skip questions you do not wish to answer and may stop at any time without penalty.

This is a needs assessment conducted for program development and advocacy purposes. It is not currently an IRB-approved human subjects research study. Responses will not be used as human subjects research unless TheCHANGEproject later obtains an appropriate IRB determination or approval. If that occurs, participants who provided contact information will be notified.

The survey takes approximately 22 to 28 minutes. Some questions ask about training experiences, barriers, institutional culture, and professional identity. Some questions may prompt reflection on discouraging experiences in your training. If the survey raises distress, we encourage you to reach out to a trusted mentor, advisor, or your institution's student mental health services.

This survey is administered through TheCHANGEproject's secure web form, which is accessible only to TheCHANGEproject's core research team. Your responses will be stored in a de-identified dataset for three years following the close of the needs assessment period, consistent with TheCHANGEproject's data retention policy, after which they will be securely deleted.

Contact information for optional follow-up or interview is collected separately from survey responses and linked only by a reference code. To request withdrawal of your responses, email research@thechangeprojectco.org with your reference code.

TheCHANGEproject follows ethical research practices as a matter of organizational principle: voluntary participation, clear purpose, data minimization, separation of contact information from survey responses, de-identified analysis, and participant-controlled withdrawal.
